Callouts
Callouts are noticeable design elements that stand out from other elements in shape and color. They must be used in a targeted manner.
Daimler Brand & Design Navigator will be terminated on 30 June 2024. After this date, Mercedes-Benz Brand Design System (BDS) will remain the central platform for all guidelines and assets related to the visual brand identify of Mercedes-Benz – including both corporate and product communications as well as associated sub-brands or subsidiaries.
Through the use of callouts, the viewer’s attention can be directed to a specific statement. Callouts are noticeable design elements that stand out from other elements in shape and color. They are used in a targeted manner. Before using a callout, one should always question whether it is genuinely necessary.
Shape and Color
The most basic shape for callouts is a circle, from which different variants can be derived. In addition to circles, rectangles can also be used for callouts. Callouts are always placed flat – shadows and 3D3D
The abbreviation “3D” stands for “three-dimensional.” The spatial representation of an object is ... effects should be consciously avoided. When designing callouts, the colors Petrol and Deep Red, and their darker and lighter shades, as well as White, are available for use. When choosing colors for callouts, attention should always be given to the color of the picture/background, so that the callout can stand out as clearly as possible. On colored callouts, text should be printed in White – except for on the lightest saturation of Petrol, when 100% Petrol should be used for text. On white callouts, type should be set in either 100% Petrol or Deep Red.
Typography
Callouts generally contain keywords or short texts, up to a maximum of four lines. Text is to be set in Daimler CS Regular or Bold, and centered within the callout. Font sizes are variable, but should not fall below the minimum size of 7.5 pt. The use of different font sizes or combinations of the Daimler CS Regular and Bold typefaces can be employed to add emphasis to text elements. Text in callouts will always be set horizontally.
Size and Placement
Callouts should direct attention to specific statements; however, they must not disturb the medium’s overall design, and should be integrated into the layoutLayout
The layout provides the designer and requesting party with an impression of how a communication ... intuitively and carefully. The size of callouts is variable, depending on format; they may not be larger than 1/4 of the width or height of the format used.
Callouts can be placed anywhere in the layout, but not on the raised area. They can be placed on images or colored areas, and extend into the raised area. For these variations, it is important to make sure that potential text in the raised area will not be blocked. Multiple callouts may not be used simultaneously on a single application.
